Robert Pearlman | Jeff Roth, director of the award-winning feature documentary The Wonder of it All, has announced the upcoming release of Alan Bean, Artist ~ Astronaut. This short-format DVD features an original, 32-minute documentary about Bean's Apollo-inspired art using footage shot inside his workshop. The DVD also includes a gallery of the artifacts that the Apollo 12 moonwalker uses to add texture and character to his paintings. |
astroborg | The Bean DVD looks like a great item. |
garymilgrom | I received mine and watched it yesterday. FANTASTIC! Thank you for producing this item which takes us inside the mind of Alan Bean as he considers his career path, changes careers and then produces his art. This really is an excellent DVD with commentary and visuals not available elsewhere. I've ordered two more copies as gifts for space friends - don't miss this it is really well done. |
Philip | How long is it and are there any 'special features'? Does it focus on Bean's career or more on his work in his artist' atelier? |
garymilgrom | I believe the feature is 32 minutes and I think there is some extra footage but I'm not sure, will check at home tonight and reply more. The main feature starts with Bean needing to make a career decision after Skylab - stay with NASA and move into Shuttle, or leave the agency for another field. His thoughts over this are appropriate to many people who consider career changes mid-life. After making the decision to become an artist, the body of the feature deals with his art and how he attempts to communicate his space career through his artistic career. |
nasamad | I recieved my copy today and have watched it already. It's a great doc that gives a real onsight into Bean's painting and his philosophy behind it. The extra feature is a productions stills slideshow set to music. |
CPCM | I bought this DVD and greatly enjoyed watching the insight of how Alan Bean makes his artwork. Since I am not a reviewer, I found this review on Amazon that I thought was appropriate. |
Robert Pearlman | Jeff Roth's Alan Bean, Artist/Astronaut will be featured as part of the National Air and Space Museum's new exhibition, "Painting Apollo" celebrating Bean's portfolio of Apollo inspired paintings. To celebrate, the DVD has been repackaged, as pictured below. Roth will be at the museum on July 18 and July 19 to sign copies. |
xlsteve | I really like the new packaging. I will be sure to stop by while I am in D.C. and pick up a copy and say hi to Mr Roth. |
Philip | Same old DVD question: Region 1 of Region 0 (worldwide)? |
1202 Alarm | If you click on the link to the Amazon.com page on the msg above yours, you'll find: - Format: Widescreen, NTSC

CPCM | I orderd mine through thewonderofitallfilm.com and was able to have the Director sign it at no extra charge. |
CPCM | Does the first cover version mean that it is worth more? First edition books have more value so does this mean the same for DVD's? |
CPCM | Has anyone seen any of these DVDs signed by Mr. Bean? |
